10 Female Founders Of Color In Europe To Watch In 2020 | The Business Insider

The recent protests around the world over police brutality highlight one of the many disparities that people of colour face. In Europe, another is that the Black, Asian, and minority ethnic, or BAME, the community is woefully underrepresented in the entrepreneurial space.

In 2017, official data from the UK government showed that nearly 8% of the ethnic minority population was involved in starting or running a new business — compared with 14.5% of the white population.

We spoke with experts, combed through startups in Europe, and looked at lists of successful women in Europe. Here are 10 female founders and business leaders of colour to watch in 2020:

Oniwinde founded BYP Network, a London-based app for young black professionals to connect for networking and job opportunities in the UK. Oniwinde has an economics degree from the University of Nottingham and a master's in management from the University of Florida. She is also a former Team Great Britain javelin thrower and a three-time British University Championships medalist.

The BYP Network's offering includes a jobs board, diversity conferences, and an app, which has been downloaded in 65 countries.
